Reconciliation Round 2024

2024 Reconciliation round at CDJFC

Carrum Downs Junior Football Club recently celebrated Reconciliation Round, a significant event that took place on Sunday, May 21, 2023. This special occasion provided an opportunity for our club to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous culture and its contributions to Australian rules football.

The day began with a powerful Acknowledgement of Country, performed by our Indigenous players which set a respectful and inclusive tone for the matches to follow.

The Reconciliation Round is a fantastic platform to educate our playing community and encourage conversations about Indigenous culture and the ongoing journey of reconciliation in Australia. It was heartening to see our young players, their families, and supporters engage in these important discussions while enjoying the sport they love.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making this Reconciliation Round a success. From the players and coaches to the volunteers and spectators, your participation and support helped create a memorable and meaningful event. Special recognition goes to Jeff, Shannen and the Farmer Family for helping to make the day possible and in particular to their children Keanu and Scout for their role in delivering the Acknowledgement of Country before every game, as well as all our Indigenous players who shared their culture with us and participated in the ceremonies.

Carrum Downs Junior Football Club remains committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all members of our community feel welcome and respected. The Reconciliation Round is just one example of how sport can bring people together and promote understanding across cultures.

As we move forward, we will continue to build on the spirit of reconciliation, ensuring that our club remains a place where diversity is celebrated and everyone has the opportunity to thrive both on and off the field.

Mothers Day at CDJFC

Mother's Day at CDJFC

This past weekend, Carrum Downs Junior Football Club celebrated our annual Mother’s Day round in style. From the under 8s all the way up to the under 16s, our players put in a tremendous effort and displayed excellent sportsmanship on the field.

A big highlight was the Mother’s Day cake stall, which was a huge success thanks to all the families who contributed delicious baked goods. The stall raised valuable funds for the club while treating everyone to some sweet treats. Thank you to all who donated cakes, slices, and other goodies to make it such a hit!

The real stars of the show were the amazing mums, grandmothers and special women who share such special bonds with our players. We loved seeing them all get involved by joining their kids on the ground for the pre-game warm-ups. Watching them handballing and kicking with the kids and run out on the ground side-by-side was heartwarming.

When the matches kicked off, our club was shown in a fantastic light as the boys and girls played their hearts out, clearly inspired by having their number one supporters cheering them on from the sidelines. The mother-child relationships were on full display.

From baking for the stall, to lacing up their boots to stretch with the teams, to loudly cheering every goal, tackle and mark, the mums of Carrum Downs JFC went above and beyond. We are so grateful for their endless support and commitment to the club.

Thank you to all the players from under 8s through under 16s for representing Carrum Downs so well through your skill and sportsmanship. And a special thanks to all the mums for making this year’s Mother’s Day round one to remember!
